Gastroenteritis-the infection caused by usage of dirty water
Gastro-enteritis is the inflammation of lining of stomach and intestines which includes both large and small intestines. Gastroenteritis is responsible for 25% of all deaths in children up to 5 years and elderly patients more than 60 years lead to hospitalization and then death. Infectious gastroenteritis maybe caused by viruses, bacteria or parasites.
Viral gastroenteritis is more common than bacterial gastroenteritis. Viruses which cause this disease are Rotavirus, Norovirus, Adenovirus and Astrovirus where as in bacterial gastroenteritis most common are E.coli, Salmonella and Shigella.
If there is only vomiting it indicates Gastritis but in Gastroenteritis vomiting is accompanied by diarrhea and at times nausea, abdominal pain or fever are also observed.
Unclean water is provided to different areas of Karachi especially Site, Gulshan, Orangi, New Karachi, Liaquatabad, Landhi, Korangi Gadap, keemari and Lyari.
The tanks and reservoirs that hold water are not properly cleaned and this way water is contaminated. The rain drainage system is not properly maintained although after rain the cleaning took place but the sludge was thrown outside which attract the houseflies and these flies sit on them and later carries the dirt in their wings to food items.
The disease also occurs due to contaminated food and houseflies are main carrier because they usually sit on the dirty things after which the food items on stalls near roadside or near stagnant water like aloo chat or bun kababs and many others they are present in open environment and they sit on them leaving their dirt.
Solutions
Firstly drink boil water which should be boiled 10 to 15 minutes.
Filtration of water alone is not effective until the filters are properly cleaned and many people do not know the accurate method.
Fumigation or sprays to get rid off houseflies.
Water can also be cleaned through hydrogen peroxide, chlorine or potash alum.
Food inspector should be assigned to check fish and food markets and Cit Government makes it mandatory.

Failure phobia
How many times have we come across the word ‘failure’? It is not an uncommon word and the familiarity of this word could be seen on the face of many people now-a-days. What is failure? A game lost by you, an exam not cleared, no worth of your work, getting no suitable jobs, in short a desirable goal not achieved or a certain task not performed is then termed as failure. It is very commonly seen that whenever you struck with failure, saying comes its all fate and when you achieve success, then it’s all hard work.
Why we fail? Is it due to inefficiency on our side that we could not deliver better result? Or is it really fate? As a Muslim, we believe that all are in the hands of Almighty Allah. It is very truly said that for any goal to achieve, the primary step is hard work, and then comes prayer and patience. There are times when you do not work hard enough and at times, your fate is not in your favor. In actuality, there are no specific explanations for failure; you fail so you fail!
There are different opinions about failure by different people, for instance, I asked a guy named Nomaan Usman who is currently seeking job, according to him ‘When you lose hope and stop taking chances, that’s a failure.’ Another lady named Annie, an aerobic instructor, in her opinion ‘When you are continuously ungrateful to the blessings of Almighty Allah, that’s a failure for her. Similarly Maria Mustafa, working as co-operative teacher in Karachi University, according to her ‘Failure is an experience and that’s it! It does not mean that a person is incapable or not talented; rather it means that his/her effort lacked one vital ingredient.
The experience of failure is different for everyone but common behaviors manifested by failure persons are anger, annoyance and fear. Anger and annoyance are observed when person is in frustration. Frustration is an unwanted emotion which naturally exhibited by a person when what he/she want life to be and what it has actually become. There also comes fear which is parcel of failure. Since the scar of failure is so deep that a person begins to fear and doubt on his/her own capabilities. You become isolated, shows disinterest in any kind of work or activity, low self-esteem, no motivation level, no planning even become very much sensitive towards any comment. Everything seems to be bleak and gloomy in a failure person’s life, these are few signs that are apparently seen in failure person.
To overcome failure is not an easy task; it requires a lot of effort, oh yes! it does. If you think that by hiding mistakes or rationalizing your mistakes, this will not help to overcome failure. Similarly blaming others for your fault or to balance out your guilt will not work, even self punishment through depression, illness, setting ourselves up for failure will also not help to overcome failure.
The most significant way to overcome is to endure and be patient. Patience is not only important in success but also in failure. The time of failure to success, though not long but at that time it seems to be very long, everyday you are fighting with your inner self to get positive feedback, in all this patience is the vital ingredient. Then acknowledgement by owning your mistakes and staying calm in face of trouble. Later repair, which means to make an attempt to rectify mistakes of your own and repair any damage as quickly as possible and lastly practice forgiveness to yourself and to others. To achieve greatest aspiration, it is very much important to have courage to face your fear and prepare yourself for possibility of loss.

Social Parade
The word ‘Parade’ used here should not be confused with those parade which we usually observe in certain big ceremonies or any other big events. The Parade which I am talking about has been commonly observed in most of the homes where the girls have to hold the tray and entered the drawing room to encounter strange faces. Sound very odd to some people or I would say too many people but this is still a true reality which happens even in this present time. The question here comes how am I so sure about this whole affair? So let me clear that I have also experienced this whole parade system even though how much bizarre it seem to be! Literally ‘Parade’ means display or procession of things but here it is used for girls who are victimized to these drawing room display culture. In simple words, it is associated with matrimony.
It has become norm in our society, some also associated with our culture. I am not against or favor of it, what I find very absurd that the way girls are being showcased in front of people which is really disgraceful! It is said that it is all fate, Almighty Allah send two people in this world and when there is right time right place, Allah will make them meet. Once I heard from some old lady that ‘Finding soul-mate is just like finding home without any address.’ The phenomenon of finding soul-mate initiated way back when the world came into existence. It is not something new.
Here in this case which I am talking about, there is a simple procedure to be followed. Firstly, mothers of these daughters start expanding their contact with aunts either in relatives or in their neighbors who is very much known to help in finding suitable grooms for their daughters where as now-a-days it has been shifted to the marriage bureau centers where you have to registered and pay the initial amount of registration which ranges from Rs.500-3000 or more than this. These marriage bureaus give your number to the candidates of groom families according to the information written on the registration paper although mostly it is quite opposite what u mentioned. Then a phone call come to the mother of female candidate where the information are exchanged mostly they ask what is color of girl, her height and then comes her qualification if they find match able they shows interest to come and meet the girl personally. Now here the fun part start, this girl is being told by her mother that some guests are coming to see her and she has been informed on same day of their arrival. Although not willing but you have to be submissive in front of your mother’s order or they try to mollify you by using these cliché lines for instance Beta apni ammi ki baat mano mein akeli maa nahi subhi maayein krti hain (Listen to your mother and I am not alone in this every mother does the same even they also do not like it). Then comes the cleaning of the house, every nook and corner of the drawing room is dusted and cleaned, snacks are cooked in the homes or bought from the bakeries and sometimes soft drinks or juices are only served. Your mother takes out the nice outfit from your closet and tells you to wear it even though clothes which you are wearing at that time also look pretty well.
Then comes the final part ‘Parade time’, guests have arrived and they have been ensconced in the drawing room. You are being told to come in the drawing room so you geared yourself and start doing left right from your room to drawing room and seated yourself on one side after which you are bombarded with different sort of questions. These queries vary, for instance, some ask what have you studied so far or what is your future aim and so on related to career. Some are concern that is you aware of all the household chores and some are there to just see a glimpse of a girl.
These guests not only comprise of parents but often they will be accompanied with whole family like sisters, brothers even their relatives like khala, chachis in their first meeting. Some guests are so finicky that you just get annoyed but since they are your guests, you have to be humble with them. Then there are those funny guests you come across that in their first meeting, they roam around your whole home without your permission which seem like they are probing your home. After all this, they go and then disappear in the thin air.
I do not comprehend the concept of going to several houses on same particular day to see all the female candidates, it is like you are going for shopping and reaching out to different shops to find one suitable article for you. It is so demeaning! Even if you are going to different shops, it confounds you so how come going to different houses on same day will not be difficult for you to choose? Then comes the demand section which is so high, they want the girl to be perfect in all departments from look wise to her qualification to household chores and yes! the main ‘age factor’. Much significance given to those candidates who are in the field of medical, engineer or having glamorous degree and in all this they wonder to have a young age girl.
Many people might think that I am very bigotry which I am fine with it but by discussing with many other girls who had or have gone through all this tiresome experience, according to them it is undignified toward girls. Some people say that if guys demand so do girls also, my question to them why not? If guys can demand so do girls have the right to demand for their future grooms? Mostly girls go for education if they are highly qualified, secondly must be working which means financially secure and thirdly looks compatible with her.
I once was watching an Indian soap where it was showing the whole culture of Hindu tradition of marriages and by that I realize that the culture followed in Pakistan from drawing room display to some of the rituals of wedding, a lot of resemblance could be evidently seen.
It is very true that soul-mates are made before we are born in this world but the culture followed in Pakistan is inappropriate.
I strongly condemn the drawing room display culture. Most of the people will show incredulity towards this particular subject and will be saying it does not happen now but even in 21st century this is happening only problem is that we do not care or take it casual. Many girls have gone through this and many are still facing. It is a custom to be stigmatized but unfortunately in our society, no one pay much heed for its consequence.

There are so many people in the campus who i have interacted with but you are someone whom I will never forget. It is not like no one has pulled my attention but your simplicity admires me.
You have maintained yourself with self dignity and there is a poise in you which is really captivating.You have a carefree nature yet you never show your anger or any kind of emotion. You keep up a poker face.
I have always seen your head cover though once I see you without veil and I must say you have an innocent face irrespective of your strong tone.
As it is said, "Simplicity is the jewel of a beauty" and I agree with the phrase after meeting you. You are simple yet you are a person of vibrancy and full of life. Your personality depicts optimisim which also creates positive energy around anyone whom you are with. I am glad to know you.

Colors of Pakistan
In relation to this, an exhibition was organized by the students of B.S. fourth year of Department of Mass Communication on Oct 12, 2010 at JUW in which they displayed distinct cultures and traditions of the country.
Chairperson of the department, Prof. Ahmed Naseem Sandilvi inaugurated the event. The guests included FM 101 presenters Alina, Shehla Anwar, Tabinda Larri and the comedian Shakeel Siddique.
The students made great effort in collecting the unique items of different provinces like in Sindh stall they had ajrak where as in Punjab stall, they showed the Mela as well as the green fields. They also had laptop on each stall where they made the slideshow of that particular province. It was a very beautiful event.
The students also displayed the present and future prospects of Pakistan with their miniatures.
Echoes of Epoch
The students displayed clothes, shoes and handmade accessories of both the times.There were also two students who dressed up as brides of the '70s and late 90s'.
The guests also included Nazia Malik who is an anchor and a fashion designer.
Many media personnel for instance Metro One and others were also invited who covered the event. At the end the lunch were served to the guests. It was a good effort by the students.
Marriage of Convenience
In the month of October, a strange event took place which attracted the whole media. It became the topic of discussion for different talk shows and many were either in favor of this or showed their disagreement.
It was really a 'marriage of convenience' and this phrase really set well when in the mid of October a rare wedding was held.
A father in Multan sought a relative reconciliation with a unique union of three individuals: one young man and his two wives. The father of the groom presuaded with pride as his son went on to marry two of his cousins in the space of couple of days. The first wedding took palce in full media glare and the scene was again re-shot with a minor change in detail , that being the addition of a fresh bride to replace the other bride. The father of the groom has a widowed sister and widowed sister-in-law and they both had daughters. They both were according to the Pakistani parlance 'marriageable' age. The boy's father didn't want to hurt his sister as well as his sister-in-law and therefore he came up with the idea of obliging both.After wedding the groom asked for the sponsored honeymoon from the government.
I do not understand what in the world we live in. I mean marriage is not just to oblige anyone it is a way of connecting two individuals with the consent of Almighty Allah but we have taken this in lighter mode. It is considered to be a blissful moment in one's life but double marriage and that also to favor someone turns a cheerful mode into a compromising mode.It is all because of less understanding of religion and trying to mould the religion according to our own convenience.

Road Safety Awareness
Today i see the news regarding traffic accident in which two people died on the spot and the sources claims that reckless driving is the main reason for this incident.
It is not uncommon in the city of Karachi where people drive so carelessly and no traffic laws are followed. I commonly observe drivers breaking the traffic signals and even trying to overtake the wrong side. The most dangerous sight is to see buses racing to win from each other. They do not even care for the pedestrians or even the commuters who are present in their bus and due to this many times the unfortunate incident occurs.
It is not like there are no traffic laws in the city but the problem lies on people who are responsible to check these drivers who break the law.
On the basis of this a seminar was arranged on Oct 11, 2010 at Jinnah University for Women (JUW) and it was organized by the Department of Physics. The main purpose of the seminar was to inform the students about road safety.
The JUW invited Superintendent Police Officer (SPO) Rao Rashid, the Incharge of Mobile Education Unit of National Highway and Motorway Police as the guest speaker who gave useful tips for safe driving.
Rashid said that high speed leads to human and financial loss therefor always avoid driving at high speed. He further said that 'speed of vehicles' plays an important role for safe driving so it is necessary to maintain the speed according to the situation of the climate. The SPO also explained the consequences of reckless driving. According to Rashid, it is important to keep the speed low when one is driving in the dark, fog or unusual climate.
He also gave awareness about lane discipline which is an important tool of safe driving. He said that over-loading lead to the cause of accidents and it also become problem for other vehicles.
In the end other speaker Police Officer Mohsin Ghori informed about the precautionary measures at the time of accident. He also emphasized on following the sign-boards for road safety.

In the end other speaker Police Officer Mohsin Ghori informed about the precautionary measures at the time of accident. He also emphasized on following the sign-boards for road safety.

Dream Comes True!!
Dreams have no boundaries, no limits. They can be seen anywhere, anytime and at any place. Some dreams come true and some get lost in the thin mist of air.
We have no control in dreams because they are linked to our thought process. At times, what is in our mind, we dream about it, they maybe small or large.
There are many dreams which you see when you are in slumber and then there are daydreaming that you see with your open eyes.
I dreamt of being a writer which came true last year when my writing piece was published in one of the leading newspaper of Pakistan.
These dreams make you to live. When you feel that all your hopes have faded, dreams are the only source that keeps you alive. Even small dreams like you haven't met your friend for a long time and you have an earnest desire to meet her/him, suddenly your wish comes true and that makes you ecstatic.
In this busy life, where no one has time for each other and they are involved in themselves but still they are not happy in their lives, dreams are the one that give you relief in this hectic life. It also gives you positivity that no matter, how bleak the life is; all will be fine in the end.
